Jindal further emphasised the importance of young entrepreneurs building their own legacies, stating, “I want you to build yourself and not use your father’s money.”
Harsh Mariwala, Chairman of Marico Ltd., echoed this sentiment, stating that families play a critical role in shaping the entrepreneurial spirit of the next generation. “Family has to set the right example in terms of creating the right culture of talking about business,” he explained. Mariwala highlighted the significance of exposing young family members to the business environment from a young age, which encourages them to work hard and learn the ropes.
Vellayan Subbiah, Managing Director of TVS Group, stressed the responsibility of the older generation to create an exciting and supportive environment for the younger generation to succeed. “It’s actually a responsibility of the previous generation to ensure that it’s exciting enough for the next generation to come into the business,” Subbiah said, adding that the next generation benefits from a platform that includes capital, networks, and the opportunity to build on a legacy.
The panelists agreed that while the next generation of entrepreneurs is talented, they must be encouraged to earn their place in business and not simply coast on inherited wealth. The consensus was clear: the entrepreneurial journey requires effort, commitment, and a hands-on approach to succeed.
